When my oldest was brought home from public school I was shocked at how little he knew about the country he lived in. Knowing about the country you live in, about the different pieces of history they contribute and knowing a bit about each region is important for our children. That’s right I am a huge advocate of learning geography. After all, not all of our children will continue to always live in the same state they currently do. As a homeschooling mom, I am always looking for a way to make learning about the states fun, interactive and also easy to absorb.
I must admit that when I was trying to piece together a curriculum for our children this seemed to be an endless task. Not that the resources aren’t available because well they are but the time it was taking was insane. As a homeschooling mom of four, a ministry owner, virtual assistant, wife and all around go to person time is not always on my side. So for me, I needed to find something that was both affordable and effective. Something that had most of the work done that I could use for a variety of age groups.
Recently a dear friend of mine released a program that she designed to do just that. In her new curriculum Across the United States. My children have always loved the resources from her site In All You Do so I thought it was worth a shot. After all, it may at least point me in the right direction at least and that is always great right?
After receiving my copy of Across the United States I was blown away. Inside I found states listed by regions, a breakdown of history facts for each state, games for my younger children, coloring pages, handwriting exercises, and learning activities for my older student. With that being said, it could also be used as a great starting point for even the more advanced learner as they discover more about each state they can be encouraged to expand what they have learned by doing research projects.
Overall, I am impressed with what I see. My first grader is currently foaming at the mouth to get started using this program and if you have a hyperactive son you know how much of a struggle that could be. I truly think that this curriculum could be a stand-alone geography lesson or could easily be used with other curriculums. I will actually be using it as a stand alone curriculum.
So you may be wondering why I am telling you about this now. Well, that is simple….This week it is on sale! During this week Annette is offering her whole curriculum with added bonuses for $12.50. After this week it will go back to its original price of $24.99
I would love to know what things you are currently using to teach United States geography in your home?
